ABOUT OUR CLUB

About us.

The club has been a prominent club in Tasmanian hockey for nearly 75 years.

In 2023 we approached 400 members and over 300 registered players from Under 9’s to Masters. Our culture is one of respect and fair play. We mentor and support junior players to develop into better players and individuals. We encourage our members to become umpires, coaches and volunteers. Our supporters and volunteers are the cornerstone of all sporting clubs.

For three consecutive years, 2020, 2021 and 2022 DiamondBacks has been awarded two prestigious awards in the Southern Hockey League. The Lord Mayors Trophy for Best Performed Junior Club, and the Ron Mills Trophy for Best Performed Club Overall.

The Prince of Wales Women's Hockey Club was formed

The club was actually formed as a result of sibling rivalry.

The venue was an old tarred tennis court near the Grade 6 classroom on the Patrick Street side of the campus. With over 50 pupils in Grade 6 the game became very popular, with people from other classes joining. Although sometimes prohibited, it was a lunchtime activity that grew into our inaugural club.
